Eligibility

If you answer NO to any of the following questions you are ineligible for a Creative Sparks Grant. If you are unsure if you are eligible for funding you can contact Brisbane City Council on (07) 3403 8888 and ask to speak to a Creative Sector Development Officer.

Please refer to the Creative Sparks Grant Program guidelines for the full list of eligibility criteria.

1. If you are applying as an individual, do you reside in the Brisbane Local Government Area (LGA)? If you are applying on behalf of a not-for-profit organisation, is the organisation based in the Brisbane LGA? * Required
If you are unsure of which LGA you live in, please enter your address into the Electoral Commission of Queensland website (ECQ) search tool or contact ECQ on 1300 881 665.
2. Are you a permanent resident or Australian Citizen? * Required
3. Are you over the age of 17 years at the time of submitting your application? * Required
4. If you are an organisation is your funding request for a new service, program or activity? * Required
This grant does not support any existing services, programs or ongoing operations.
5. Do you or your organisation have an active Australian Business Number (ABN) in the applicant's name and nominated address within the Brisbane LGA or can nominate an incorporated Auspice Organisation based in the Brisbane LGA? * Required
If you are unsure if the address is in Brisbane LGA, enter the address into the Electoral Commission of Queensland website (ECQ) or contact ECQ on 1300 881 665.
6. Are you a Brisbane-based professional artist, creative worker OR not-for-profit community arts, historical or cultural organisation with a track record of creative practice? * Required
7. Will your project have a new accessible creative public outcome that is located within the Brisbane Local Government Area? * Required
If you are unsure if the venue is in Brisbane LGA, enter the venue address into the Electoral Commission of Queensland website (ECQ) or contact ECQ on 1300 881 665.
8. Will your project start after 15 March 2027 and be completed by 18 January 2028? * Required
9. Have you applied for only one creative grant in the 2026-27 round with Brisbane City Council? * Required
You may apply for either Creative Sparks OR Lord Mayor’s Creative Fellowships. Applicants cannot apply for both grants.
10. Can you demonstrate financial and/or in-kind support from sources other than Brisbane City Council for the proposed project? * Required
You cannot apply for 100% of project costs.

If you answer YES to any of the following questions you are ineligible for a Creative Sparks Grant.

11. Are you an employee of Brisbane City Council or Arts Queensland? * Required
12. Are you a government or political organisation, school, university or for-profit business? * Required
This excludes sole traders.
13. Have you received any creative funding from Council totalling $10,000 or more between 1 July 2026 and 30 June 2027? * Required
14. Do you have any overdue acquittals for previous Brisbane City Council grants? * Required
Overdue means you have not met the due date of your acquittal report and it is now overdue. If you are unsure if you have an overdue acquittal, please email the Community Grants Team at: communitygrants@brisbane.qld.gov.au
